The system is currently used to perform a wide variety of procedures including urologic, general laparoscopic, gynecologic laparoscopic, general non-cardiovascular thoracoscopic and thoracoscopically assisted cardiotomy surgical procedures in children and adults. Because medical robotic systems require a long and costly development phase, there are currently no competitive systems on the market, however, there are many prototypes.Surgical robotics has tremendous potential to increase the effectiveness of existing procedures and to facilitate novel procedure types. The surgical robotics industry is, in many ways, still in its infancy, with more products in development than currently commercially available on the market.
